Sewing machines were provided by Janome for QuiltCon so for the Machine Appliqué class we also had a Janome educator to help with any machine problems that came up. We shared Ann with the classroom next door, but she was a fantastic help for some of the small issues that came up during class. While I do sew on a Janome, I've only had it for a few months, so I am far from an expert.
As I've mentioned before, I'm terrible at remembering to get photos! I must drill this into my brain, because I don't have photos of either the Machine or Bias Appliqué classes. There was so much wonderful work done and I don't have any record of it :( During the Hand Appliqué class, photos popped into my head briefly enough for me to ask Jody to take some for me. So all the photos here are courtesy of Jody - thanks, Jody!
As with quilting in general, it is such fun to see the different fabric combinations people use for their projects. It is one of the reason that, as a teacher, I'm not fond of providing kits. One of my students made a good suggestion though, that, especially at events to which people travel such as QuiltCon, I offer a notions/tools kit. A few people had trouble finding some of the non-fabric supplies I requested. So I'll be looking into that to see whether I can make such a kit cost effective for all of us.
I hope all my students will complete the evaluation forms they receive from the MQG so I can continue the parts of my class they liked and refine the parts that didn't work so well. There is nothing so satisfying as helping someone learn how to do something they weren't sure they could! I've added information on the classes I offer to a tab at the top of this blog. I'd love to come teach a class or two to your guild or shop!
I find it hard to put into words the amazing experience that teaching, learning and just being at QuiltCon was. There just get to be so many adjectives and superlatives that they start to sound meaningless.
I have one more QuiltCon post I'd like to do. This one about the quilts - mostly the Denyse Schmidt exhibit - so I'll post that in a few days. I hope you get to do some sewing this weekend!
