I've been reading the Generation Q magazine blog for quite a while now. I always enjoy the chatty and informative style about the goings on in our q-niverse as they call it. I picked up a copy of the "hot off the presses" new print magazine at Market. The first thing you notice is its size - smaller than the typical magazine at about 7" x 9". I'm not sure why I find the size appealing, but I do :) Inside there are great articles, interviews and quilt projects.
One regular feature that I know I'll turn to as soon as I get my magazine is called "Block Builder". Community Editor, Scott Hansen, has sketched a partial block. Finish it any way you like and then submit your version for a chance at a prize. What a fun idea!
You may have noticed quilting stars Amy and David Butler on the cover. Inside there is an interview with the designing couple that provides a peek into their working process and their home. The view from their house would certainly inspire me!
The article reviewing five irons was very helpful and provided concrete information as to which irons performed well and which did not. Of course, there are quilt projects from well known designers such as Scott Hansen, Heather Jones and Julie Herman and much, much more.
Lucky you that I have a copy to give away! If you'd like to win a copy of Generation Q magazine, leave a comment telling me about your favorite part of quilting magazines. Do you like the projects, the interviews, tours of studios, tips on working with scraps or pre-cuts or.....? If you'd like additional chances to win, follow my blog or my Facebook or Twitter (@eschhousequilts) and let me know in a separate comment. The giveaway will remain open until the end of the day on Thursday, May 31.
Edited to add: I always forget to add that I must have a way to contact you if you win! If you are a no-reply blogger, please include an email address in your comment. If you don't know what a no-reply blogger is, check your Blogger profile. If there is no email address listed on the left side, I will not be able to reach you unless you include your email address in your comment. Thanks!

I almost never buy quilting magazines - I like looking at the pictures and all the projects, but I rarely want more than one or two things out of it (and they're so very, very expensive in Canada, I don't know about the US, but I could buy 2 magazines or 1 book, so my money tends to go to the book, if it's got stuff I want in it). Whenever I see something new to me, I always hope it'll be The One, the one with more than one worthwhile project, but I've not found it yet. It's bound to happen eventually, right? Maybe this'll be it.
ReplyDeleteI like the different ideas and how-to's. Though, as Clumsy Cloud mentioned, they can be bloody expensive, so I don't buy many. I do, however, enjoy browsing them regularly to see if there's one that's got a particularly nice collection of ideas (both in terms of patterns and colour combos).
ReplyDeleteProjects are my favorite of any crafting magazine - all else is gravy!!
ReplyDeleteI am a new Twitter follower - thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI look at the projects first to see if there is anything I like. I can't wait to see a more modern quilting magazine, I definitely do not like the traditional fabrics/ designs. Tips and tricks are always nice. I a still a beginner so those are very helpful to me!
ReplyDeleteI follow you on twitter @_livelovecreate
ReplyDeleteI love getting free patterns in the magazines and I adore all the photos. Reviews of products are always helpful too.

I love seeing how some quilters take a basic block and give it a modern/contemporary twist to create a quilt, and all too often I get some fantastic inspiration from the tiny advert or article photos for quilt projects
ReplyDeleteI like the pictures for inspiration... usually I don't need the project instructions. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso I've been stalking your blog since a certain swap ;)

ReplyDeleteI love flipping pages and soaking up the colours that flash by and the smell of the ink. I love being able to put a sticky note on my favourite project and when it is on the shelf I know exactly what is where because I write a header on the sticky note sticking up so it is easy to grab it and make it :) Hmmm/... magazines.
ReplyDeleteI read all my quilting magazines cover to cover and most enjoy the projects.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever bought a quilting magazine, so this would be my first!
ReplyDeleteI read all my magazines the same, I page through looking at all the pictures, then I go back through and read all the adds for new fabrics and then I go through again and read all the articles and instructions for the projects. And finally I mark those projects that I would like to do. So, it is like getting four magazines in one. I love most everything about quilt magazines.
ReplyDeleteI follow you in Google reader.

ReplyDeleteI hardly buy quilting magazines. I get a lot my inspiration from the internet what with hundreds of inspiring blogs offering free tutorials, patterns and advice while in a magazine I will usually like one item or two.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I saw Amy and David on the cover and was interested in reading their story.
